THE ROLE: As the Head of Design, you will lead and oversee the design function across the business, managing a team of 3 Design Managers, 2 Design Coordinators, a Services Manager, and several Graduates.
Your key responsibilities will include;
- Provide leadership, mentorship and direction to the design team ensuring high performance and collaboration.
- Oversee design strategy from pre-construction to completion, ensuring alignment with company goals and client expectations.
- Collaborate with Business Development and Estimating to influence innovative and cost-effective design outcomes.
- Implement and enhance design management procedures across all projects.
- Ensure design consistency, technical excellence and compliance across multiple project teams.
- Liaise with project and construction delivery teams to ensure seamless transition from design to build.
- Manage external consultant teams and drive performance outcomes.
- Conduct high-level risk reviews, ensuring Safety in Design principles are embedded across all projects.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and technical excellence.
- Develop and maintain strong client and stakeholder relationships through proactive communication and collaboration.
- Provide executive-level design reporting to senior management and drive design-related strategic initiatives.
YOU - Architectural background with extensive experience (minimum 8+ years) working for a head contractor/builder in Australia.
- Proven leadership experience managing multiple design professionals and teams.
- Exceptional ability to oversee risk, negotiate effectively and drive design outcomes that protect the builder’s commercial interests.
- Demonstrated success leading complex projects across Education, Health, Community, and Commercial sectors.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills.
